Moorhead man gets nearly 11 years in prison for home invasion

MOORHEAD – A man who broke into a home here and assaulted people inside before leading police on a high-speed chase was sentenced to more than 10 years years in prison.

Emmanual Xavier Kennedy, 23, of Moorhead was sentenced Monday in Clay County District Court to serve a term of 10 years and eight months at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.

An attempted murder charge against Kennedy was dropped in December, and he pleaded guilty to three felonies: possession of a firearm by a person with a criminal history, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and first-degree aggravated robbery.

Court documents say that in August, Kennedy and three other men showed up at a Moorhead home wielding guns and wearing face masks and gloves. The men demanded cash from those inside.

A man said he was shot at and another man inside the house at the time said he was hit in the head with the butt of a shotgun.

Kennedy will be given credit for 173 days already served in jail.
