Moorhead snowmobile racing team three-peatsSAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Gabe Bunke, a snowmobile racer from Moorhead, made history Saturday winning the Soo I-500 for the third straight time.
Bunke, who won the 500-lap race on a one-mile oval track, becomes the event’s second racer to win three straight.
Bunke and driving partner Aaron Christensen led most of the race, which spanned 9 hours, 51 minutes on a track that got increasingly rough and treacherous as the day wore on.
Bunke and Christensen now gear up for the United States Cross Country I-500 to be held Thursday through Saturday near Thief River Falls, Minn. After that, they plan to compete for the first time in the Feb. 14 Iron Dog 2,000-mile race in Alaska.
