Vikings' Cassel can void his contract this week

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel has until Friday to decide whether or not to void his 2014 contract and become an unrestricted free agent, ESPN.com reported Monday.

If Cassel does not void his contract, the Vikings will have until the seventh day of the new league year in March to either pay Cassel a $500,000 roster bonus or let him go, according to the report.

Cassel, 31, completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 1,807 yards and 11 touchdowns against nine interceptions last season.

Cassel is set to make $3.7 million in total salary next season, which is the same he made in 2013 to back up Christian Ponder.
