Bismarck Century scores boys hockey win over South-Shanley
Bismarck Century held on to defeat the Bruins 4-3 during a North Dakota boys hockey game at Scheels Arena.
The Patriots (17-2-0) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, getting goals from junior defenseman Mason Przybilla and senior forward Christopher Brown.
South-Shanley (10-8-1) rallied to tie the game in the second period, but Century once again built a two-goal cushion before the second intermission.
“We made one or two mistakes in the game and they were able to capitalize on them,” South-Shanley head coach Wade Storey said. “I thought we played well, but there are a few things we still need to clean up. It is hard to play from behind.”
Sophomore forward Parker Simonson scored the Bruins’ first goal with 3 minutes, 17 seconds remaining in the first period. South-Shanley junior forward Tyler Bossert tied the game 8:34 into the second period.
The Patriots answered with goals from Eric Schmidt and Blake Ovind.
South-Shanley skated with urgency in the third period and outshot Century 11-7.
Junior defenseman Peter Bueide cut the Patriots lead in half getting a shot past Century junior goaltender Max Barta 2:27 into the third period.
Barta, who finished with 26 saves, never allowed South-Shanley the equalizer.
“I tried not to lose my focus of the game,” Barta said. “They have a lot of great shooters and goals they scored were ones I couldn’t do much about. Our defense stepped up and cleared a lot of rebounds.”
Century has now won 10 consecutive games and Saturday’s victory marked its third in as many days.
“It was a three-win weekend for us and it really simulated what tournament time is going to be like,” Brown said. “We are happy to get the wins and we will keep moving forward from here.”
Brett Kostka posted 24 saves for the Bruins.
