Man sentenced on child pornography charge

BISMARCK – A Bismarck man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on a federal child pornography charge.

Steven J. Paul, 59, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of receipt of materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors, U.S. Attorney Tim Purdon said in a news release.

Paul pleaded guilty Oct. 23. Hovland sentenced Paul to serve 15 years in federal prison, the mandatory minimum sentence, followed by 20 years of supervised release. Paul was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.

Paul was on probation for a child pornography offense when he admitted to probation officers that he had downloaded child pornography from the Internet.
