MPS warns customers of phone billing scamMOORHEAD – Moorhead Public Service is warning its customers about a billing scam.
The utility says it has fielded calls from several customers who have been contacted by telephone by people trying to obtain financial information.
The individuals claim to work for a utility firm and demand payment over the phone on past-due balances. The callers threaten customers that their service will be shut off immediately if they do not make payment over the phone.
MPS does contact customers with past-due balances by phone to offer payment options, but does not demand payment by telephone.
