Ground blizzard possible today and tonight

Forecasters say a ground blizzard with 30 to 40 mph winds is possible late Friday afternoon and evening in the Red River Valley.

The National Weather Service predicts an inch of snow will fall before a strong cold front sweeps through the region. After that, winds are expected to increase, with gusts up to 50 mph.

As the wind kicks up snow, there’s a potential for near-zero visibility, particularly in open areas, the weather service said.
