North Grand Forks home burnsA fire damaged a house in Grand Forks’ Near North Neighborhood Thursday evening, leaving its occupants homeless.
There was heavy smoke on the main floor of the house at 627 4th St. N. when firefighters arrived at about 5 p.m., said Battalion Chief Rob Corbett, of the Grand Forks Fire Department, who was not on scene.
Corbett said the house’s occupants had received medical attention on the scene, but none required hospital treatment. A Grand Forks Police officer at the fire said a woman and three children had been in the house at the time of the fire.
One firefighter was transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance, Corbett said. He didn’t have information on the firefighter’s condition or possible injuries.
The fire was put out as of about 6:30 p.m., but firefighters were still on scene. Corbett expected them to be there all night, at least, and into today.
The American Red Cross assisted the house’s residents, two adults and three children, by providing a hotel room, clothing and food, according to a Red Cross news release.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
