Excelsior man injured in northern Minnesota snowmobile crashCOOK, Minn. – A 59-year-old Excelsior man remained hospitalized in Duluth on Sunday after suffering “significant” injuries in a snowmobile crash in northern St. Louis County on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened just after 3 p.m. in Beatty Township, north of Cook. Hollis Fritts Jr. was traveling west on the Arrowhead Trail when he reportedly saw two eastbound snowmobiles coming around a corner in the middle of the trail, at a high rate of speed.
Fritts swerved to the right to avoid a crash and hit a snowbank; he was ejected from the snowmobile and hit a tree.
Fritts was transported by ambulance to Cook Hospital and later was transferred to Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, where he was listed in stable condition Sunday afternoon.
