NDSU wrestling takes down Oregon StateCORVALLIS, Ore. – Hunter Weber got North Dakota State on the correct path early, as the 125-pound wrestler pinned Joey Palmer of Oregon State.
NDSU held on to defeat the Beavers 19-17 on Sunday.
“We started off well,” Bison head coach Roger Kish said. “Hunter Weber got a big pin for us early. When you get a big boost early like that, I think it helps.”
The Bison won three straight matches in the middle of the dual that put them back in the lead.
Steven Monk (165 pounds), Hayden Zillmer (174) and Kurtis Julson (184) helped the Bison seize control.
“They provide a boost in the middle of our lineup,” Kish said. “Teams know they need to have a comfortable lead on us to get through the middle of our lineup. We’re really tough.”
Monk won his 13th straight match, and is now 20-1 on the season for the Bison.
North Dakota State claimed its first victory over Oregon State, which had won the previous four meetings between the two schools.
