Moorhead Premiere Video to closeMOORHEAD – After more than 20 years, the credits roll for Premiere Video in Moorhead. The store at 1030 Main Ave. closes its doors at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The store is going out with a three-day sale that started Friday. Movies, TV series and video games are selling at deep discounts. Saturday, movies were $3 and TV series $8. Sunday, from 10 a.m. until the store closes at 3 p.m., DVDs are $1 (Blu-ray discs for $2), TV series for $3 and video games for $2 to $5.
Customers lined up outside waiting for the first two days of the sale, said Brenda Ackerman, operations manager for Premiere Video. At 2:30 p.m. Saturday, the store was still bustling but the shelves were starting to look a little picked-over.
What doesn’t sell will be redistributed to other Premiere Videos. The only remaining Fargo-area branch is the West Fargo location at 1115 9th St. E.
The Moorhead store has been in its current site for eight years, moved from the corner of Main and Eighth when construction on the Walgreens started. Ackerman started at that site in 1991.
She said employees were told earlier this month that the Moorhead location would close. The site employs five, and Ackerman said Premiere would try to relocate jobs, but the West Fargo store is already fully staffed.
Ackerman said video rental stores have fallen on tough times in the digital age with more people streaming content or watching on-demand.
