Letter: Power of prayer changing heartsIt was great to hear that abortions in Fargo decreased in 2013, down more than 11 percent from 2012. Even the provider’s executive director, Tammi Kromenaker, said the drop is good news (on its face). However, she “fears” that the drop is due to North Dakota’s new abortion laws causing potential clients to go elsewhere. I think her real fear is that she is losing “business.” Sadly, choosing life over abortion is bad for business.
We can only speculate as to why the number of abortions has fallen. Rep. Bette Grande, the Fargo Republican who authored two abortion-restriction bills in 2013, thinks the decline is due to an increased awareness of the fetal heartbeat. She states, “The more the public knows, the more their hearts and minds are being changed.” She may be right. A heartbeat is scientific proof of life. More women are realizing this and are choosing life.
However, there is one other possibility for the decrease. I believe the power of prayer is changing hearts and minds. Many prayers were said during the recent “40 Days for Life” campaign. Prayers are being said every day for those little “heartbeats.” God wants to assure us that he hears our prayers and that with him, “all things are possible.”
