Spuds receiver Lawrence commits to MSUM football teamMOORHEAD – Minnesota State Moorhead has landed a big local receiving target.
Moorhead High senior wide receiver Brett Lawrence verbally committed to play football for the Dragons on Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Lawrence is expected to remain at wide receiver at MSUM.
“I think Brett really found out the last half of the season how good he could be,” said Spuds head coach Kevin Feeney. “His ceiling is so high. His best football days are way ahead of him.”
Lawrence said his final decision was between the Dragons and Bemidji State. Both teams play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
“It really came down to a gut feeling,” Lawrence said. “I just felt great about the program and the direction that they were headed.”
Lawrence also plays basketball and competes in track and field for the Spuds. Lawrence set the Minnesota Class 2A, Section 8 record in the 400 meters last spring with a time of 48.83 seconds.
“He’s got deceiving speed,” Feeney said.
With the addition of Lawrence, the Dragons have 11 commitments in their current recruiting class. Dave Lawrence, Brett’s dad, was an outside linebacker for the Dragons in the 1980s.
