Winter-branded body wash leaves skin smooth

FARGO – Winter weather wreaks havoc on our regular beauty routines. Cold, dry air leaves our usual go-to products lacking.

Companies have taken note, releasing season-specific versions of health and beauty products.

One example is Olay’s “limited edition” Vanilla Winter Retreat ultra-moisture body wash, purchased at Wal-Mart for $4.97.

The large (23.6-ounce) bottle is adorned with a geometric blue-and-purple snowflake pattern. It claims to contain one jar of Olay moisturizer.

The back label promises to visibly condition skin in one use, and in a week, for it to be “lush and nourished.”

The body wash has a consistency like lotion – not as creamy as I expected, but not runny. It lathered nicely on a wet shower puff.

Its appropriately seasonal vanilla scent isn’t overpowering or cloyingly sweet.

I wasn’t wowed the first time I used it. My skin felt clean, though not necessarily conditioned. I still felt like I needed to apply lotion afterward.

Over the course of a week, though, I did notice my skin felt smoother in the shower. And I was using less lotion. Even my perpetually rough elbows were softer.

After one bottle, the label says the body wash will make my skin-healthy looking and will provide long-lasting moisture.

I can’t vouch for those claims yet, but I’m willing to keep lathering.
