Vikings' Peterson out, Packers' Lacy in Pro BowlGreen Bay Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy was added to the Pro Bowl roster, replacing Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson informed the NFL he is unable to participate due to injury. Peterson ended the season with a right foot injury.
"I was extremely excited to hear that I am getting to go to the Pro Bowl after my rookie season," said Lacy. "I feel like it gives me a great opportunity to thank my teammates, especially the offensive line, and coaches, for working with me and helping me accomplish what I did on the field this year."
The 2014 Pro Bowl is Jan. 26 in Honolulu. Teams will be selected in a draft format for the first time in the history of the game, with captains Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders making selections.
Lacy was named the Pro Football Writers of America rookie of the year on Tuesday.
A second-round pick, Lacy set franchise rookie records for rushing yards (1,178), rushing TDs (11) and rushing attempts (284) and tied the team's rookie mark for 100-yard rushing games (four). He led all NFL rookies in rushing yards and was eighth overall in rushing.
The Packers last had a rookie running back selected to the Pro Bowl when John Brockington made the team in 1971. Lacy is the first Packers running back to be named to the all-star game since Ahman Green in 2004.
