Fargo Oak Grove extends its unbeaten ND Class B, District 2 record with win over Central Cass

CASSELTON, N.D. – Fargo Oak Grove head boys basketball coach Kyle Card called Monday’s game against Central Cass an old-fashioned North Dakota Class B, District 2 rivalry game.

“Anything can happen in these games,” Card said.

What ended up happening was Oak Grove defeating the Squirrels 71-68 at Central Cass High School.

Junior guard Christian Adams led the Grovers with a game-high 26 points, but Central Cass played tough on its home court.

Oak Grove (9-1, 4-0 District 2) had to work in order to keep its District 2 record unblemished.

“We just made enough plays down the stretch to pick up the win,” Card said of the Grovers, who slipped out of the Class B rankings on Monday.

Adams scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half and connected for four 3-pointers in the final 16 minutes.

“My teammates found me for a couple open looks,” Adams said. “That makes it a lot easier for those shots to go down.”

Junior guard Carter Kretchman added 20 points for the Grovers.

“Christian made some big shots for us in our win against Kindred and he did so again (Monday),” Card said. “He needs to do that for us, especially when teams start to key in on Carter. He is capable of hitting those shots and is an explosive player on offense.”

Oak Grove led 29-24 at halftime and had to hold off several advances by Central Cass (5-4, 1-3) in the second half.

Oak Grove appeared to be in control when it took a 48-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Squirrels cut the Grovers’ lead to single digits several times in the final eight minutes.

“Our kids fought and I have to give them credit,” Central Cass head coach Mike Kegley said. “It was good to see the passion return, but Oak Grove is a very talented team. You have to play well to beat them and we did for stretches, but not consistently over 32 minutes.”

Senior forward Connor Rieniets led the Squirrels with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
