Bremer Bank employees volunteer 16,800 hours

Bremer Bank employees in the Fargo-Moorhead area donated more than 16,800 volunteer hours in 2013.

Employees volunteer by serving on nonprofit boards, coaching youth sports, distributing meals and other activities.

The volunteer contributions are in addition to the $38 million in grants given in 2013 by the Otto Bremer Foundation.

Concorde agency raises funds for food banks

The Concorde General Agency in Fargo held a “Spirit of Giving Challenge” over the holiday season by asking their clients to nominate their local food bank or food pantry to receive a $500 donation from Concorde on their behalf.

The challenge raised over $4,200 which was donated to 20 food banks across six states.


Bank contributes to affordable housing fund

Western State Bank contributed $300,000 in December to the North Dakota Housing Incentive Fund to support affordable housing development in the Devils Lake area.

The HIF provides developers of rental housing with low-cost financing if units are set aside for essential service workers and low- to moderate-income households.


Smiling Moose Deli hosts two fundraisers

Smiling Moose Deli franchises hosted the “Cookies for Colorado” flood relief campaign in October, donating funds for every cookie sold during the month. With this campaign, enough money was generated to supply 2,300 meals through Boulder County’s Community Food Share in Colorado.

The franchise also hosted the “Mighty Mo!vember” campaign in November to support men’s health and prostate cancer awareness. A portion of the proceeds from every Might Mo’ sandwich sold was donated to the Movember Foundation, raising a total of $1,600.


Youth club awarded grant from tennis group

The United States Tennis Association has awarded a $300 grant to the Boys & Girls Club in Fargo.

The funds will be used to purchase tennis equipment which will be utilized at up to 12 school year program locations in the Fargo-Moorhead area.


Rotary clubs distribute dictionaries to students

Four Fargo area Rotary clubs participated in the annual Dictionary Project recently which provides every third grade student in Fargo, West Fargo and in private schools with their own dictionary.

Volunteers from various clubs distributed the books to 41 classes in 12 public schools in Fargo, 33 classes in eight West Fargo schools and six classes in four private schools.

This is the sixth year that the clubs have provided the dictionaries to students. The project is completed each fall as part of the literacy programs the Rotary clubs support in the F-M area.
