Weekend Watch: Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra’s ‘American Genius’Saturday and Sunday
In his first year leading the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, conductor Christopher Zimmerman wanted to blend the music of his native England with his adoptive home here in the United States. The maestro pays tribute to state-side composers with the FMSO’s concerts, “American Genius,” this weekend. Leonard Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide” and “On the Waterfront” bookend a performance that also includes Aaron Copland’s “Rodeo,” a selection from John Adams’ “Nixon in China” and the regional premiere of “Starburst” by Jonathan Leshnoff. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m., Sunday, with a pre-performance talk 45 minutes before show time at NDSU’s Festival Concert Hall. Tickets range from $15 to $35 and are available at www.fmsymphony.org and (701) 478-3676.
