Woman possibly suffering from freezing temps found crawling in downtown Fargo

FARGO – Fargo police responded to a call Saturday morning about a woman seen crawling on her hands and knees downtown, possibly suffering from exposure to the cold.

At 8:13 a.m., police arrived in the 200 block of First Avenue North, where the driver of a vehicle had stopped, let the woman into the car and notified authorities.

The woman, whose name police did not record, appeared to suffer from environmental exposure to the cold and was taken to Sanford Health by ambulance.

Though officers at the scene didn’t confirm her condition, Sgt. Mark Lykken said the signs of exposure they look for include very slow, sluggish response, extremely red or white skin and disorientation.

Temperatures at the time were just above zero, but a strong wind out of the north was making it feel like in the teens below zero.

Officers at the scene didn’t issue any citations or indicate whether the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
