Letter: Great disappointment with ‘Fly Fargo’ promotion

We see “Fly Fargo” commercials on TV all the time. I like flying out of Fargo because of the convenience, but after our last experience a couple of weeks ago, I will think twice.

We were flying to Disneyland with our children and grandchildren, ages 2 and 4. Our plane was supposed to leave Saturday morning at 7 a.m. for Minneapolis and then on to Los Angeles. Well, we were still waiting on the ground at 8 a.m. Finally, the captain came on and told this to the passengers: “We are in Fargo, N.D., and I cannot believe they don’t know how to de-ice a plane. You would think with their weather, they would get it right. I refuse to fly this plane and put my passengers in danger, so I am going to make them do it again. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

Well, needless to say, we missed our flight in Minneapolis and the next flight we could get was at 5:30 that afternoon. We spent eight hours at the airport with two small children and missed a whole day of vacation.

I understand when there are mechanical problems and weather, but when a day is lost because somebody isn’t doing their job, then it makes a person think twice about the “Fly Fargo” advertisement.
