Van catches fire on 45th Street in Fargo

FARGO – A van caught on fire on 45th Street near Interstate 94 shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fargo fire Capt. Mark Waller said the teen driver noticed smoke coming from the engine of the 2001 Ford Windstar and pulled into the Holiday gas station on 45th Street.

The driver called his father, who said the engine had been running strangely, Waller said. He tried to return home when he noticed flames coming from under the hood.

By the time fire crews arrived, the vehicle was engulfed. Fire trucks blocked off traffic for about 30 minutes due to blowing smoke from extinguishing the blaze.

If engines aren’t properly tuned, Waller said the cold can exacerbate issues and potentially cause fires.

“If you’re having problems, the cold weather is only going to make it worse,” he said.

No one was injured in the fire. The vehicle is totaled.
