Trade talk: Orton's to replace Moorhead C-store

MOORHEAD - Orton’s Moorhead Food Mart at 725 30th Ave. S., is planning a major expansion.

Owner Frank Orton said the plan is to demolish the current convenience store and gas station starting around early April and completely rebuild the facility on a larger scale.

Construction is likely to require two to three months.

Orton said the new facility will have more pumps, a car wash and will offer additional food options.

To encourage the project, the city of Moorhead extended a tax break to the business.

According to city of Moorhead information, it’s estimated the business will receive an exemption of $14,250 annually for four years, for a total of $57,000.

The exemption applies to new assessed building value.

The land the new building will sit on, which is valued at about $480,000, remains taxable during the duration of the tax exemption.

The first year of the tax exemption will be 2016.

Hotel going up

Construction has started in Moorhead on a new Mictrotel Inns & Suites by Wynham.

The 70-room hotel going up at 2915 12th St. S. will be a four-story structure featuring a fitness center, business center, meeting room, and laundry facilities for guest use.

RRBC, LLC, of Fargo is the developer and owner of the hotel.

It will be managed by SKY Hospitality, LLC.

Consolidated Construction Co. is the general contractor.

“We are excited to be expanding the Microtel Inns & Suites by Wyndham brand into the Moorhead area. Our goal is to add a high-quality hotel with excellent amenities and outstanding customer service at an affordable price,” said Brent Strand of RRBC.

Building permits

A new hotel and an electrical contracting business looking to expand are among projects seeking building permits from the city of Fargo.

Clubhouse Hotel and Suites is looking to put in a foundation at this time, with building plans to come later.

The site of the proposed hotel is 4400 15th Ave. S.

Also, H & S Electric is looking to build a foundation for an addition to its business at 1611 1st Ave. N.

Plans for a building are to be submitted later.
