ConocoPhillips pledges $1 million for new Dickinson hospital

DICKINSON, N.D. - Bakken operator ConocoPhillips has pledged $1 million to Dickinson’s under-construction St. Joseph’s Hospital, the hospital announced Tuesday.

With the latest gift, the foundation has raised nearly $10 million of its $15 million goal for private fundraising, St. Joseph’s Hospital spokeswoman Stephanie Fong said.

The other $85 million for the project is coming from parent company Catholic Health Initiatives.

ConocoPhillips’ donation will come in the form of $250,000 a year for four years.

Development of the new hospital, planned to open in fall 2014, was ramped up when the oil boom hit Dickinson and brought with it rapid population growth.

ConocoPhillips has field offices in Dickinson, Watford City and Sidney, Mont., and is running 11 rigs in the Bakken.

“They just feel that the Bakken is such an important place right now,” Fong said, “and they have an office here and they’re investing a lot here and they want to see health care continue to grow.”
