Crash kills Wis. driver on I-94 near Barnesville

BARNESVILLE, Minn. – The driver of a pickup truck was killed in a collision with a semi Monday morning near here, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash happened about 4:20 a.m. in the east-bound lanes of Interstate 94, the patrol said in a statement.

The 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck was going over a railroad overpass when the driver lost control and hit a guardrail. The truck stalled sideways in both eastbound lanes and the semi broadsided it, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation, but the patrol does not believe road conditions were a factor, Sgt. Jesse Grabow said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Vincent O’Connor, 32, of Antigo, Wis., died at the scene. The semi driver, Billy Diesem, 63, of Dickinson was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries that were not life threatening, the patrol said.

All lanes of the highway were cleared and re-opened by 7:30 a.m.
