Neighbors: Broadcasters’ deaths loss to area

The area lost two popular broadcasters this year: Marv Bossart and Larry Ristvedt.

Marv had been with WDAY from 1958 until he retired in 2000. He was 79 when he died in April.

Larry had been with KFGO from 1976 until he retired in 2010. He was 71 when he died in November. He perhaps was best known for teaming with Tom Wynn on the “Tom and Larry Show.”

As to Marv, a question has come up as to who his co-anchors were over the years. WDAY included them in its 60th anniversary clips this year. But for the record, here they are again, thanks to Steve Tschida and Sue Eider at WDAY, who sent their names to Neighbors:

• Claudia Danovic, 1972 (?) to 1983.

• Maureen Zimmerman, 1983 to 1993.

• Stacy Schiable, 1993 to 1996.

• Najla Amundson, 1996 to 1999.

• Kerstin Kealy, 1999, and still co-anchoring WDAY newscasts.

Name the show

Here’s a question on another TV matter.

Koly Speer, Ulen, Minn., is seeking information about a children’s TV show that ran on a local station after school on weekdays in the late 1950s to the early 1960s.

The commentator was one of the station’s news or weather personnel.

“He asked for drawings from children and showed them,” Koly says.

“I drew a picture of our house with our two cats in front of it. I was about 6 at the time and it was so awesome to see my drawing on TV.”

If you can identify the show and the man leading it, let Neighbors know. Koly will appreciate it.
