Weather Talk: October’s temps in 40s seemed very cold thenThe first chilly weather of fall didn’t come this year until around the middle of October. After a mild and rainy first part of fall, the weather turned very cool and remained that way.
Starting Oct. 15, afternoon temperatures were generally in the 40s, and morning frosts were frequent. It seemed very cold to us at the time. We probably made a big deal about it on the news.
My! How things change. Starting Dec. 5, it has been below zero more hours than it has been above zero, so now that temperatures are expected to return to nearer the seasonal averages for a few days, it seems genuinely mild.
It is hard to remember, but just two months ago, weather much warmer than this felt very cold. With more frigid weather likely in the coming weeks, we should enjoy this “mild” weather while it lasts.
