Heisman goes to Florida State's WinstonNEW YORK - Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston became the second consecutive freshman and the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York.
The 19-year-old Winston, a redshirt freshman, was named college football's outstanding player by a wide margin over Alabama senior quarterback AJ McCarron.
Winston, considered the overwhelming favorte for the award, received 2,205 points to McCarron's 704.
In 13 games this season, Winston passed for 3,820 yards and 38 touchdowns in leading No. 1 Florida State into the BCS National Championship game against Auburn on Jan. 6.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, last year's Heisman winner, was also among the six finalists invited to New York for the ceremony.
