Trade Talk: Junkyard Brewing uncaps new beer

MOORHEAD - Junkyard Brewing Co. of Moorhead is rolling out a new beer.

The India pale ale-style brew will be called Coachgun, and according to the brewery, it will pack “an explosive hop flavor balanced by a high percentage of lightly caramelized barley.”

The beer is being featured at area release parties and will be at the center of a party set for 5 to 11 p.m. today at Brick and Barley in Grand Forks.

The brewery has two other beers – Hatchet Jack and Scrounger.

Drinking establishments that keep or sometimes feature Junkyard beer on tap include:

The Red Hen Taphouse in Dilworth; Brick and Barley in Grand Forks; Sidestreet Grille and Pub and Rhombus Guys Pizza in downtown Fargo; and JL Beers locations in Moorhead, downtown Fargo and West Fargo.

Junkyard Brewing is based in the back of the building that houses the Homebrew store at 1320 1st Ave. N., where Junkyard Brewing has an off-sale license to sell half-gallon growlers. Hours for growler sales are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Shotgun Sally’s

New Year’s Eve will ring in a new Fargo business.

Shotgun Sally’s Rock-n-Roll Saloon has set its grand opening for that night, which falls on a Tuesday this year.

The new bar and restaurant is in the former Big D’s building at 1515 42nd St. S. Big D’s closed this fall as part of a $1.1 million renovation into Shotgun Sally’s, which will offer food and drinks in a setting that will include live music.

The nightclub’s musical offerings will lean toward a modern country rock theme.

A Shotgun Sally’s opened in October in Grand Forks.

Owner Robert Leslie said the Fargo Shotgun Sally’s will place a major emphasis on food and will be open daily for lunch and dinner.

As part of that emphasis, Eric Wilson, who has 31 years of experience in the food business, was hired to be general manager of the Fargo site, Leslie said.

Jimmy John’s coming

A Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich shop is planned for a spot that had been home to an Arby’s at 2815 13th Ave. S. in Fargo.

The Arby’s closed in 2012.

The existing building will be torn down to make room for the new Jimmy John’s as well as space for three retail operations, said Troy Hocum, owner of the project.

Hocum said the small retail center will be called 13th Avenue Lunchbox.

He said the Jimmy John’s plans to open sometime in early 2014.

Fargo has three other Jimmy John’s locations: 1414 12th Ave. N., 1801 45th St. S. and 2511 Kirsten Lane.

In addition to the new Jimmy John’s, Hocum owns the Jimmy John’s on Kirsten Lane.
