Lake Area Gymnastics Academy hires Brasel

FARGO – The Perham (Minn.) Lakes Area Gym-nastics Academy (LAGA) Board has hired former Perham gymnast Ashley Brasel as the new director and head coach for the LAGA program.

Brasel will take over for former club and high school coach Charlie Fleck, who won nine state championships with Fargo South High School and eight with Perham High School. Fleck’s contract was terminated in late September and he did not return as head coach of the Perham gymnastics team. Neither the high school nor LAGA would comment as to why.

Brasel is a former Yellowjacket gymnast and is currently a coach at American Gold Gymnastics in Fargo.

She began participating with the Perham program when it started in 1998 and was the first gymnast from Perham to win the state all-around title as a sophomore. Brasel was a member of four state championship teams with the Yellowjackets. She was a coach with LAGA from 2002-07 and been an optional coach and competitive optional coordinator for American Gold since 2008.
