Park River to vote on urban chickensPARK RIVER, N.D. – The fate of the Park River chickens is going to the people.
The City Council on Monday voted to put the city-dwelling chickens issue on the city election ballot in June.
If the ballot vote matches Monday’s show-of-hands straw vote of the spectators in council chambers, the chickens will prevail.
Mayor Dan Stenvold said an overwhelming majority of an estimated 50 people wanted to kill a decades-old ordinance that prohibits the raising of livestock, including chickens, within the city limits.
