Oil company to help rebuild trails near Little Missouri State ParkBISMARCK – An oil company has offered to pay $75,000 to cover half the cost of rebuilding damaged trails on private land adjacent to Little Missouri State Park in western North Dakota, a state official said Tuesday.
ConocoPhillips disrupted the trails, which were on leased private land but were used by park visitors, when it built roads to well pads in the area, said Sheila Peterson, fiscal director of the state Office of Management and Budget.
The company compensated the landowner for the disruption and also approached the state Parks and Recreation Department, offering $75,000 to help rebuild trails on the leased land, she said. The department will provide $75,000 in matching funds.
The state’s Emergency Commission approved the spending authority for the department on Tuesday. The Legislature’s Budget Section, which meets Wednesday, also must approve the spending.
