Harney estate donates to MSUM scholarships

MOORHEAD – Minnesota State Moorhead has received $36,000 for athletic scholarships for the Don Harney estate.

A former basketball player at Purdue, Harney served in the military and later became a successful businessman. Harney died in 2007.

Gary Annear and Ron Fitzgerald, the executors of Harney’s estate, decided to make the donation to MSUM athletics.

“We are honored that Gary and Ron would think of MSUM to remember a great businessman and friend,” said Matt Baasch, an MSUM director of development for athletics.

Harney played with John Wooden at Purdue. Wooden later became a legendary men’s basketball coach at UCLA.
