Letter: Power grab aims to pack high court

In the 1930s, President Roosevelt tried to pack the U.S. Supreme Court with “yes men” judges. Fortunately he failed, and it has not been tried since – until now, by President Obama and Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid. In a blitzkrieg strike from the progressive left wing, the Democrats have gone nuclear in order to appoint their judges to any court with a mere 51 votes instead of the 60 votes per 225 years of tradition.

The two-party system is no longer legitimate, according to Reid as he does the dirty work for Obama. However, Reid did not do this alone. His willing helper was Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, our new senator just elected last November. Remember Heidi as she promised us she would be our independent voice in Washington?

Explain to us, Heidi, how the appointments of a few lawyers to an underworked D.C. court is so important that all principles and 225 years of tradition are cast aside at the beck and call of Harry Reid. Independent voice? North Dakota values? A familiar refrain: If you like your values, you can keep your North Dakota values.
