Style Profile: NDSU senior goes for preppy look

FARGO – When 22-year-old Courtland Miller describes a piece of clothing, he’s specific.

Red aren’t just red chinos – they’re “Nantucket red” chinos.

The North Dakota State University senior’s attention to detail shows in his style.

When I spotted Miller at NDSU, he wore tailored clothes that were true to his preppy look.

Describe your style.

Classic, conservative and a little preppy.

What’re you wearing today? Nantucket red chinos from Gap, Banana Republic sweater, Skagen watch, shirt from Halberstadt’s and shoes by Dockers.

Who inspires your style?

John F. Kennedy – he could wear a suit.

What do you think of trends?

I don’t follow them. I’d rather refine my own look.

Where do you shop?

Locally, Fowlers Heritage Co., Halberstadt’s and AENDEE.

I also like J. Crew, Banana Republic, Macy’s and lots of online stores.

What do you splurge on?

Suits from Halberstadt’s. The service is second to none. I have two Baroni Prive suits – one charcoal gray and one black.

What in your closet has sentimental value?

My homecoming king sash from last year. NDSU’s had a big impact on my life. I also keep the Bison shirt I wore to the championship game in Frisco, Texas.

Do you have anything in your closet that people would be surprised by?

Anything I’ve worn to WE Fest – cut-off flannels, cowboy boots.
