DGF schools close; all Moorhead public and private schools will dismiss early todayDILWORTH, Minn. - Blowing snow and deteriorating road conditions have led Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton schools to close at 12:30 p.m. today, Barnesville schools will have their buses on the road by 1 p.m., and all of Moorhead’s public and private schools are dismissing classes one hour early.
A Dilworth schools official said concerns about snow-clogged roads and poor visibility led to the decision to cancel classes for the rest of the day.
Elementary school students in Barnesville are being released at 12:45 p.m., and high school students get out of classes at 12:55 p.m. Buses will start to hit the road at 1 p.m., an official in the superintendent's office said.
All Moorhead School District's after-school and evening activities are canceled, too, including afternoon Early Intervention Services, Jump Start and Community Education classes, the school district announced.
“Visibility is deteriorating and wind is apparently increasing. We want students home before dark,” Moorhead public schools Superintendent Lynne Kovash said.
West Fargo School District is still holding classes and activities as normal. However, the district has canceled a long-range facilities advisory committee originally scheduled for this evening, a district official said.
As a snow storm moves through the valley, forecasters are predicting high winds and drifting snow this afternoon. WDAY Meteorologist Aaron White predicted winds between 15 and 25 mph, accompanied by gusts up to 30 mph.
