Worthington man charged with abusing graddaughter

WORTHINGTON, Minn. - A Worthington man accused of sexually abusing his granddaughter has been charged in Nobles County District Court.

According to court documents, Kenneth Meyerdirk, 68, faces one first-degree and three second-degree charges of criminal sexual conduct for alleged contact with a granddaughter that spanned several years.

The criminal complaint alleges that all of the contact happened on Meyerdirk’s farm. During an interview by Child’s Voice in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 2012, the alleged victim said she remembered incidents starting when she was in second grade -- which would have been in 2000 -- until she was 11.

The alleged victim, now an adult, explained that it wasn’t until she was older that she realized what was happening wasn’t right. In the interview, she described her grandfather repeatedly telling her to be quiet and that he just wanted to spend time with her. She also said her grandfather told her not to tell her grandmother or parents.

Meyerdirk is expected to make his first appearance in court this month.
