Letter: Hoeven doesn’t act like true moderateThe Forum’s political columnist, Lloyd Omdahl, was too generous when he described Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., as a “responsible moderate … trapped by his party’s ideology.”
Jeb Bush came to town and gave a speech in which he unveiled his bratty vision of the future: “dismantle Obamacare.” Hoeven was quick to parrot him, which showed a man gung ho to carry out the GOP’s plan for 2014, not a trapped one.
I detect more than an inkling of race behind criticism of so-called Obamacare. Politicians don’t dare come out and say it, not even in the slave states on poker night, but many seem to feel that the Affordable Care Act is something only “one of them” could have come up with. Dismissive, wicked chortles give away what kind of joke they think it is.
In the minds of corporate America’s legal team, not a few of them U.S. congressmen by day, the setting of the Obamacare joke is a melon patch.
