Dragons prevail in men's basketball

MOORHEAD – Aaron Lien’s 18 points propelled Minnesota State University Moorhead to an 87-76 victory over Northern State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men’s basketball opener for both teams on Saturday.

“I thought we played extremely hard,” MSUM head coach Chad Walthall said.

Lien and fellow underclassman Matt Nelson (16 points) gave the Dragons a boost on offense.

“They are very capable,” Walthall said of getting productive minutes from young players. “If we take care of the ball, we should be able to run people in and out, which should help us with depth in the second half (of games).”

It wasn’t just the young players that allowed MSUM to pick up a win in its opening conference game.

Senior Tarell Clark chipped in with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Jordan Riewer tallied 10 points for the Dragons.
