Namedroppers

MSUM NEWS: Keisha Brown, daughter of Kim and Kent Brown, Moorhead, has been awarded a $6,000 Dragon Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead. The scholarship is awarded to students ranking in the top 50 percent of their class with a score of 28 or above on the ACT exam.

NDSU NEWS: Wyatt Bader, son of David and Paula Bader, Fargo, has been admitted to North Dakota State University “with distinction.” Distinction means that NDSU is acknowledging Bader as an honor student.

MSCTC NEWS: Kari Larson, Harwood, has been elected to the Minnesota state officer team of Business Professionals of America. Larson is a student in the accounting program at Minnesota State Community and Technical College Moorhead. She was chosen as the organization’s state recording vice president during the fall leadership conference in Walker, Minn. She also serves as president of the BPA chapter in Moorhead.

STATE STUDENT CONGRESS: The 51st annual North Dakota High School Activities Association Student Congress was recently held in Bismarck. West Fargo High School placed first, Shanley placed third and Fargo Davies placed fourth.

HOUSE II:

Hannah Keogh, Shanley, first; Benjamin Olson, Fargo Davies, third; Raelyn Leier, Shanley, fourth; Casey Orvedal, Fargo Davies, fifth; Austin Walker, West Fargo, sixth; and Jason Keller, West Fargo, seventh.

Logan Volk, West Fargo, first; Angelina Zokigo, Fargo South, second; Gurvir Johar, Shanley, third; Nidhi Mahale, Fargo Davies; Isaac Spanjer, Fargo North and Jared Melville, Shanley, tie for fifth; and Jacee French, West Fargo, eighth.

HOUSE VI:

Lisa Tellinghuisen, West Fargo, first; Bridgid O’Keefe, Fargo North, third; Mingyu Yang, Fargo Davies, fourth; and Afure Adah, Shanley, and Jediah Thomas, Shanley, tie for seventh.

AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS: Anthony Potts, son of Michael and Ann Potts, Fargo, won second in the college men through age 20 category of the 2013 National Association of Teachers of Singing Minnesota Singing Auditions.

TWIRLING NEWS: The following members of the Silver Star Baton Twirlers from the YMCA of Cass Clay were winners in the fall twirling competition recently held in Omaha, Neb.:

Kaycee Froysland, 16, Fargo, won first places in solo twirling and marching; second in modeling and two baton; and third in an overall pageant.

Rachel Green, 16, Fargo, placed first in modeling, overall pageant, solo twirling and show twirling; second in solo, two baton and three baton; and third in overall baton challenge and marching.

Jessica Green, 13, Fargo, placed first in modeling, marching, solo and show twirling and third in marching, pageant and two baton.

The girls are coached by Merrie Sue Holtan, Brittany Keating, Aimee Kamrath and Shaina Magel.
