UPDATE: Fire damages Moorhead container plant

MOORHEAD – A blaze caused smoke and fire damage to a container-making business here Friday morning, according to Moorhead Assistant Fire Chief Greg Doeden.

Firefighters responded at about 9 a.m. to a report of a fire at Consolidated Container at 1802 2nd Ave. N.

The plant makes plastic drink containers, among other things.

An employee of the business said workers heard a fire alarm and smelled smoke Friday morning and exited the building.

There appeared to be no injuries.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down by 9:30 a.m., but were still putting out hotspots.

Doeden said fire officials had an idea of what started the blaze, but he said he couldn’t confirm a cause, as the investigation had just started.

He said the workshop area of the plant suffered the most fire and smoke damage.
