Letter: Fond memories of sweet rewardsThe passing of Bob Litherland brought back fond memories from the 1970s for this former baseball player of the Moorhead Dairy Queen Babe Ruth baseball team. If our team won, then we received a free Dairy Queen treat as a reward from our sponsor.
In my first year, as a 13-year-old, we may have won one or two games all summer. We improved the next two years and made numerous bicycle trips from the baseball field to downtown Moorhead to collect our ice cream.
Players from other teams also showed up, and I have no idea how late it was when we finally biked home. I don’t think any of us had or needed a curfew on game nights.
I think it’s time for a DQ reunion this summer. We might need a curfew, however, to keep us from having too much fun.
