Fraase helps Shanley to third place at ND Class A state volleyball

MINOT, N.D. - Alivia Fraase tallied 16 kills and 12 digs, leading Fargo Shanley to third-place honors at the ND Class A state volleyball tournament.

The 25-17, 25-13, 25-20 win was aided by Madeline Stark, who provided the Deacons (31-3) with eight kills and a pair of aces. Hannah Krauter added 17 assists.

Katelyn Schaffner’s 12 kills paced St. Mary’s (24-11).

Fifth place

Fargo Davies 3, Grand Forks Red River 0

Davies secured fifth place, breezing by Grand Forks Red River 25-20, 25-20, 25-13.

Amanda Kringlie had a match-high nine kills and Kinsey Papachek added eight kills and 19 digs for the Eagles, who improved to 26-9.

Red River (19-15) had 10 players log at least one kill, led by Skylar Borg’s five.

Seventh place

Bismarck 3, Fargo South 2

South sophomore Emily Stroup set the Class A state tournament record for kills by hammering her 74th over the three-day span, though the Bruins fell in five sets to Bismarck for seventh place.

Stroup had 29 kills in an opening-round loss and 15 in consolation play on Friday. She hammered 30 against the Demons, who triumphed 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 13-25 and 15-13.

“Emily’s a phenomenal player, so she will always have a lot of kills,” Fargo South coach Andrea Hummel said. “She’s the type of player that sees the court well and gets things taken care of when she makes contact.”
