Hochhalter, Carrington take down Stanley for third place at Class B volleyball

MINOT, N.D. – Carrington senior outside hitter Kayla Hochhalter posted 13 kills and 17 digs to help the Cardinals to a third-place finish at the North Dakota Class B state volleyball tournament.

Carrington (31-8) defeated Stanley 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-17 on Saturday at the Minot State Dome.

Chai Pappa and Angela Nielsen each finished with 10 kills to lead Stanley (30-12-3).

CARRINGTON (kills-blocks-aces): Jacey Engelhorn 9-1-0 (10 kills), Brooke Rosenau 3-0-2 (35 assists), Page Anderson 3-1-1, Claire Endres 1-1-0, Madison Wendel 14-4-3 (12 digs), Kayla Hochhalter 13-1-1 (17 digs).

STANLEY: Sabrina Skarsgard 7-0-3 (12 digs), Chai Pappa 10-5-5 (9 digs), Savanah Meyer 4-0-1, Brianna Holland (2-0-2 (31 assists), Sarah Taylor 3-0-0 (16 digs), Angela Nielsen 10-2-0.

Fifth-place match

Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 3, Thompson 2

Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood used a 9-0 run in the fifth set to help clinch a 22-25, 25-7, 25-19, 8-25, 15-9 win against Thompson during the fifth-place match.

Thompson (38-6) was up 8-5 before Mohall-L-S (28-10) scored the next nine points to set up match point.

Sharron Galegher and Shaice Marx each finished with 14 kills for the Tom-mies.

Junior outside hitter Callie Carlson led the Mavericks with 17 kills.

THOMPSON: Rebecca Cole 0-0-1 (10 digs), McKenna DeMoe 2-0-4 (25 assists, 7 digs), Karleigh Weber 0-0-0 (27 digs), Shannon Galegher 14-1-0, Johanna Loyland 0-0-4 (14 assists, 11 digs), Bethany Ivesdal 7-1-0 (17 digs), Laura Benoit 0-1-0, Averi Olson 2-1-0, Shaice Marx 14-2-0, Anna Nistler 5-0-0, Emily Overby 1-2-0.

Seventh-place match

Beulah 3, Grant County 2

Junior outside hitter Jaimie Murschel paced Beulah with 27 kills and 15 digs, helping the Miners to a 25-20, 17-25, 25-17, 13-25, 15-7 win over Grant County in the seventh-place match.

Delaney Johansen – a junior outside hitter – added 17 kills and six ace serves for Beulah (26-12-3).

Sydney Bentz finished with a match-high 26 kills for Grant County (28-6-2).
