Fargo Davies advances to state volleyball consolation title match

MINOT, N.D. – Fargo Davies used its balance to overcome an outstanding all-around performance by Bruins sophomore Emily Stroup. The Eagles won in the consolation semifinals of the North Dakota Class A state volleyball tournament 25-20, 25-23, 25-12.

The Eagles had five players with five or more kills, led by Kinsey Papachek with 10 and Alayna Haugen with eight. Katelyn Olson had 30 assists to go with her five kills. Stroup had 15 kills, 15 digs and nine assists for the Bruins.

Red River and Davies play at noon Saturday for the consolation championship, following the 10 a.m. seventh-place match between South and Bismarck.

Grand Forks Red River 3, Bismarck 2

Grand Forks Red River rallied to beat Bismarck 23-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-8, 15-13 on Friday.

Red River overcame a 2-1 deficit in sets and a 13-12 deficit in the fifth set, putting away the victory on a tip kill by Taylor Adam. Adam finished with 16 kills and Keana Burr had 12 for the Roughriders, who received 48 assists from sophomore setter Mari Rustebakke.

Bismarck was led by Natalee Todd with 18 kills and Morgan Miller with 12.
