Fargo Davies cross country running standout Scheel commits to NDSU

FARGO – Fargo Davies senior cross country standout Branden Scheel is not taking his running talents very far when he enters college next fall.

Scheel has committed to run cross country at North Dakota State.

“North Dakota State has a great team,” Scheel said. “When I made my visit the team and coaches were very nice. My family and I have known coach (Don) Larson for a long time and he has always been very supportive.

“There were a lot of factors that went into the decision, but overall NDSU was the right fit,” Scheel added. “It felt like I belonged there.”

Scheel, a multiple time all-state runner for the Eagles, finished third at the Class A state meet the last two seasons and won two East Region individual championships in his career.

Scheel said he plays to officially sign with the Bison in February.

He was also considering the University of North Dakota and the University of Nebraska.

“It’s a big relief to have the decision out of the way,” Scheel said. “Now I can get back into training and work myself back up.”
