5 non-cooking uses for herbs on Thanksgiving

FARGO – The savory smell of rosemary and bay leaves remind me of Thanksgiving dinner, but the turkey isn’t the only place for these herbs.

Here are five non-cooking uses for herbs this holiday season:

Festive place cards

Dress up plain, white place cards with a sprig of rosemary or thyme.

Drink garnishes

Use a sprig of rosemary to spear olives for an aromatic martini.

Water infusers

Freeze sprigs of mint and basil in ice cube trays to enhance your water carafe.

Holiday scents

Boil an orange slice, four cinnamon sticks, 2 tablespoons of whole cloves, four bay leaves, ½ cup of whole cranberries and a lemon slice in 4 cups of water. Then let simmer as company arrives. Add more water as needed to keep the holiday scents filling the air all day.
