4-year-old Fargo girl doesn't stay missing for long

FARGO – A 4-year-old girl went missing for a brief time Wednesday morning after she unlocked the door to her home and went looking for her grandmother.

Fargo police were called to the 1000 block of Oak Street North about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a missing girl.

The mother of the girl told police her daughter had been sleeping in the living room of their home. When the mother went to check on the girl, she discovered the 4-year-old had let herself out of the house by unlocking a door.

Police received a call a short while later from a resident in the 700 block of First Street North who said a little girl had knocked on their door and they had let her in and given her a juice box.

Police Lt. Joel Vettel said the girl indicated she left her house intent on finding her grandmother’s house. After she became lost, she knocked on the door of the first home she could find that had a light on.

Vettel said the house where the girl found shelter was not far from her own house.
