Mandan allowing New Year's Eve fireworksMANDAN, N.D. — The Mandan City Commission has voted 3-2 to allow fireworks in city limits on New Year's Eve.
The state Legislature earlier this year approved a bill giving communities the option of allowing fireworks to be sold and used at the end of the year.
Fireworks also are allowed in Mandan over the Fourth of July holiday. The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1h2MTIn ) that opponents of allowing them on New Year's Eve worry about fires in heated firework vending tents, and about noise disturbances. Supporters say there isn't likely to be a lot of fireworks being lit if it is extremely cold outside.
