Letter: Paying it forward for two kind acts

Two nice stories that I was a part of on Veterans Day:

My son went with his father (both vets), to TGI Friday’s for their Veterans Day free meal. (Is it really free? I don’t think it is. Our military gives up so much.) While they were eating, an older lady came by and handed them an envelope. Inside was a $100 bill – for serving our country. They looked for the lady to thank her but could not find her. This is their way of thanking her.

The other story concerns my brother who also served in the military. He went into Applebee’s for his free meal for Veterans Day. Just as he was leaving, he heard someone shout out his name. He looked around and did not recognize anyone there. It turned out the young man had been a student in Detroit Lakes High School in 2006 and he recognized my brother as his teacher. An extra treat and great memories for my brother.

Thank you to all our vets. Remember, freedom is not free.
