16-year-old among three suspects arrested in home invasionSANDSTONE, Minn. - A 16-year-old boy was among three suspects arrested Thursday in Pine County in connection with a home invasion near Sandstone earlier in the day.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that the juvenile is believed to be the person who fled the home after the homeowner shot another burglar.
The juvenile faces several criminal charges, the sheriff’s office said, including first-degree burglary.
The home invasion was reported at 2:38 a.m. Thursday.
A 75-year-old man told police that two men entered his home in a robbery attempt. The man said at least one man had a gun. He said he was able to find his own gun and shot and killed one of the intruders.
The dead man was identified as Gypsy Wayne Watts, 23, of Pine County.
Two other men were arrested with the juvenile in downtown Sandstone on Thursday afternoon. The status of those two men was unknown.
Sheriff Robin Cole said the motive could have been a search for painkillers the man uses for cancer treatment.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.
